Ekiti state gubernatorial election which held on April 14, 2007 declared as the winner Engr Segun Oni of the People's Democratic Party. His opposition in person of Dr John Olukayode Fayemi of the All Progressive Congress challenged this result.
The court of appeal with a judgement passed on February 17, 2009 ordered the re-run of the 2007 election. The election re-run commenced on April 25, 2009 and was only concluded on May 05,2009 as a result of electoral violence.
The re-run conducted on April 25, 2009 however brought into power Dr Fayemi on October 16,2009.
